Eddah’s Hope Cancer Foundation (EHCF) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) informally established in 2011, and officially registered by the government of Kenya in May 2013. The organization seeks to work with like-minded individuals, institutions or companies in the pursuit for the reduction of the number of cancer deaths amongst Kenyans. This is through sensitizing the young adults about the disease locally and regionally. The Foundation creates awareness on the prevention, management and treatment of cancer in Kenya.
EHCF works in urban areas where cancer cases are rampant due to life style changes and choices, pollution due to urbanization among other factors. Despite this, the lack of awareness especially within the young adults and young families has prevailed. This is characterized by the high spread of cancer amongst most modern families.
In most cases the young adults are left to bear the brunt of the disease, either by taking care of their ailing parent/(s) or as the trends are showing suffering from the disease themselves, a situation that should definitely be averted.
The high cost incurred in the course of treating the disease especially after it has become malignant, the psychological strains involved during treatment, amongst other factors, makes it important that we target this group. The efforts put in will go into helping ease the burden on the young adults and empowering them so that they are able to assist both themselves, and their families.
Over the years EHCF has evolved into a more structured organization engaging different professionals in an array of sectors. It is headed by a board composed of six members who operate on minimal budget raised from contributions from the directors and through the sale of branded selected items like Tee shirts, wrist bands and caps.
