OUR IMPACT

Cancer is that awful word we all fear when we go to the doctor for a medical exam and that brief dark moment has become all too common in the world we live in. Sometimes the fight against cancer is too difficult to put into words. You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have. All the emotion we go through and the strength a cancer patient needs to build up is hard. One has to fight through some bad days to earn the best days of your life.

Eddah’s toughness was in the soul and spirit, not in muscles and that is embodied in the ethos of the foundation to date. Eddah’s name is curved in the heart of the foundation and not tombstone. Her legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about her. At any given moment one has the power to say this is NOT how the story is going to end and that was the genesis of Eddah’s Hope Cancer Foundation.

The foundation since its inception in 2012 passed through three stages before it was duly recognized in the fight against cancer. In the first, it was ridiculed by many peers of the founder. Secondly, it was opposed by some due to the enormous vision of the founder. Thirdly, the fight against cancer was regarded as self-evident, being ill perceived to only affect a few. The foundation has overcome many hurdles since inception that has its desire to have a cancer free generation and urge to reach its full potential all the more meaningful. Advocacy allows the foundation to reach out to the young adults educating them about cancer and sharing with them their innermost fears, hopes, disappointments and victories.

Most people wonder why somebody is not doing something in the fight against cancer. But they are somebody. There has to be urgency in fighting cancer. The most difficult decision our generation faces is to act. Knowing is not enough; we must apply what we have learnt. Being willing to join the fight against cancer is not enough; we must become Cancer Soldiers.

The foundation has chosen to act by defining clear practical ideals of fighting cancer. However, Eddah’s Hope requires the necessary means (expertise and financial resources) to achieve those ideals and our staff, volunteers, board of directors, partners and sponsors will play a critical role to this end. It is never too late for one join the frontline. Go the extra mile. It’s never too crowded to join the cancer army. Every day that one challenges cancer is a victory.
